Classroom Behavior Management System
Each student has a small chart with their name on it. They have 4 colors of velcro on their chart, black, red, green, and blue. Each color represents their behavior. Black represents the lowest color, insubordination. Red, the next color up, represents lackadaisical. Green, the color everyone starts on, represents hardworking. Finally blue, the highest color you can reach, represents outstanding behavior. At the end of the day the students record their color in a binder. The colors are worth a dollar amount. Our classroom theme is "Prospect Airlines" and all the students are employees traveling the world for knowledge. As such they receive a deposit in their account each day based on color. At the end of the week they have the option to buy things from our class store. This includes lunch with the teachers, art time, computer time, extra recess, and other various rewards. Check with your student daily to see what they are working for!
School Wide Behavior Management System
The school wide PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) team has created a school wide system. The students behavior will be charted daily by Ms. Perry and Mrs. Moore. These charts will check when students have had excellent blocks (literacy block, math block, specials, etc.) and record any behaviors that need to be documented. We then conference weekly with the student. One sheet will stay at school and one copy will be sent home. The total number of checks a student receives equals the total number of points they receive in a week. The more points the higher the level (of 3 levels, 1 being the highest and 3 being the lowest). Students then receive "Prospect Paws" to use at the weekly school student store as well as monthly activities.
BIP (Behavior Intervention Plan)
The majority of our students have BIP's or Behavior Intervention Plans in place. These are individualized behavior plans that work in addition to the class and school wide systems. Please check with Mrs. Moore or Mrs. Burnette (Special Education Coordinator for Prospect Learning Center) for a copy.
